Surface Water

Surface water is any water that occurs on the land surface including run-off, creeks, streams, dams and reservoirs.

South Australia's surface waters (rivers and streams) support important aquatic ecosystems that sustain a diverse range of plants and animals and supply drinking water for most of the State's population.

They also sustain much of our irrigated agriculture, manufacturing, food processing and winemaking industries and provide a focus for water-based recreational activities and tourism.
