Catchment Care Introduction

‘Catchment Care’ focuses on biodiversity in catchments, to complement ’Water ~ Learning and Living’.

This resource has been designed to make teaching about Biodiversity and Catchments in South Australia easy and fun. Catchment Care is designed as a one-stop shop for biodiversity education in South Australia.

Catchment Care incorporates classroom activities and resources that will help you integrate biodiversity and catchment education into a whole-of-school approach. This resource supports the hands-on activities available through Our Patch/Catchment Care and Waterwatch programs in the Northern Adelaide and Barossa, Onkaparinga, Torrens and Patawalonga Catchment Board areas.

The protection and restoration of Australia’s unique biodiversity is critical for a sustainable future. The more people understand water, biodiversity and catchments, the more likely they are to get involved and make good decisions about managing water and valuing our environment.

In teaching about biodiversity and catchments there are many paths to learning.
'Catchment Care' provides five sustainability outcomes that are supported by themes that help us understand why biodiversity is essential for a sustainable future. The sustainability outcomes are linked to the SACSA framework through Essential Learnings.

Within each theme there are links to many on-line resources, activities and contacts.

Title. Water - Learning and Living Resources.

Developed alongside 'Catchment Care' is the 'Water ~ Learning and Living' component of this site. It provides a framework for educating about water and catchments in the South Australian context. There are many shared resources in 'Water ~ Learning and Living' and 'Catchment Care', because of the close connection between biodiversity, catchment and water issues.
