Why teach about water
and catchments?
There are four key messages that explain why teaching about
water is critical to a sustainable future.
- Water is essential for life.
- We all live and interact in catchments.
- Taking action to manage catchments.
- Caring for and protecting catchments.
The more people understand water, biodiversity and catchments,
the more likely they are to get involved and make good decisions
about managing water and valuing our environment.

How
can you use this information in the classroom?
In teaching about water and catchments there are many paths
to learning.
'Water ~ Learning and Living' provides five sustainability
outcomes that are supported by water themes that help us understand
why water is essential for a sustainable
future. The sustainability outcomes are linked to the SACSA
framework through Essential
Learnings.
Within each theme there are links to many internet based
resources that can be accessed through the press of a button,
some recommended activities to develop outcomes, and a list
of contact organisations that can assist the educator if needed.
You can also go to the poster segments to link directly to
topics that interest you.

A poster has been designed to depict the range
of water and catchments issues in South Australia. View

Learning and Living' resources.

The Catchment Boards greatly welcome your feedback on this
site. Please contact your local Catchment
Board to be sent an evaluation questionaire, so we can
improve this site in the future.
We would also like to incorporate any resources you find
on water and catchments - so please send your favourite websites
or activities to your local Catchment Board so they can be
shared with other educators. |

Developed alongside 'Water ~ Learning and Living' is the 'Catchment
Care' component of this site. It provides a framework for educating
about catchments and biodiversity in the South Australian context.
There are many shared resources in 'Water ~ Learning and Living'
and 'Catchment Care', because of the close connection between biodiversity,
catchment and water issues.
